The Honey Run Covered Bridge was constructed over Butte Creek in 1887 and burned down in November 2018 by the “Camp Fire”. It was roughly 131 years that we all were able to enjoy the covered bridge. When I was growing up in Paradise California we use to take trips to the covered bridge and swim and hang out. As an adult every time I go back to the Chico or Paradise area we like to still hang out and let our kids play there. So many great memories made there. It’s a perfect spot where the shade it provided was a good base camp while everyone went playing and exploring down the creek. My favorite memory of the covered bridge is when I went back to visit family and we all went to hang out at the covered bridge. We tubed down the creek, jumped off rocks into the water, hung out and had some lunch. My kids were able to enjoy the cold water and get a piece of what it would have been to grow up in Paradise as I did when I was a kid. An experience my kids could never have had growing up in Arizona. lol. I take that back. Arizona has some really cool places to go to and hang out by the water.
I made this pendant as a donation piece to the Honey Run Covered Bridge Association. I now also would like to share this design with anyone else that would like to remember the Honey Run Covered Bridge. As far as I know they are raising money to reconstruct the covered bridge. That is great news. It’s just one of those iconic symbols and places that need to be more than just a memory.
Symbolism:
I wanted to design this similar to the Paradise medallion I already made. It’s basically the same thickness and diameter. I also was contemplating adding a tree that covered part of the bridge, but instead wanted the wings. The wings signify so much to me. They are lifting up the bridge, bringing new life, and making the old new again. It’s a great place that brings back lots of memories and it will rise again.
This pendant or medallion needs a nice heavy chain or cord for the necklace. It does not come with one. If you’d like a leather cord necklace you can find them on my site listed below in either 2mm or 4mm thicknesses. The almost last two images show what the pendant looks like with a 2mm and 4mm natural leather cord. The last two images are with the 4mm cord.
Here is the 2mm thick cord listing (HERE)
Here is the 4mm thick cord listing (HERE)
Dimensions:
The pendant is about 2mm thick on the edges and thickens to around 5mm thick. The diameter is about 35mm. The bail is about 16mm long x 4mm wide. The inside hole is about 11mm x 6.5mm.
Finish:
The finish is a dark satin finish overall with some parts like the letters on the front a little more high polished along with the roof edge of the bridge. The outer edge or ring of the medallion is satin along with the back and text on the back. Overall the contrast of the dark and satin finish looks great. Kinda rustic like it should be.
Thank you for looking and supporting me and remembering the Honey Run Covered Bridge that has been apart of so many peoples lives over the years in one way or another.
The Honey Run Covered Bridge was a very important place for locals to hang out and for families to swim. I remember going there and hanging out below the bridge as it was the most shaded area. Then family and friends play in the creek and enjoy themselves. So many great memories. I designed band crafted this pendant to represent the covered bridge and all the greatness it once was. Built so long ago and destroyed, but it will rise again.
